My notes

The name comes from Dream of the Red Chamber, where the Twelve Beauties are twelve women, each with her own story and character. It has also found its way into Wuyi tea, where twelve different rock teas are brought together under the same name.

For our own edition, we returned to two tea gardens we have worked with for years. The twelve selections include three teas from the Zhengyan area, all grown, managed, processed and roasted under the care of two tea makers, Liu Mingdong and Zhou Zeyou.

There are Beidou, Tie Luohan and Shui Jin Gui, alongside the more familiar Rou Gui and Shui Xian. We also included cultivars such as Qi Dan, Qi Lan, Chun Lan, Bai Rui Xiang, Yin Feng, Huang Guan Yin and Huang Mei Gui. Among them are several Gao Cong and Lao Cong selections, including Rou Gui, Shui Xian, Chun Lan and Huang Guan Yin.

Having these twelve teas together gives us a chance to taste across different cultivars, growing conditions and roasting approaches. Some have been part of our tea table for years; others are teas we have wanted to introduce for some time.
