The 2003 Xia Guan 'Te Ji' Tuo (aka 'Te Tuo') is part of a famous tea series launched in 2003 to surpass the quality of the Jia Ji tuo cha using higher-grade leaves. Naturally aged in Guangzhou, this raw puerh tea has developed complex flavors and aromas gradually over time, and is now mature.
The clear orange liquor showcases years of perfect storage. The nose gives the classic Xia Guan markers with a hint of smokiness, (even after 21 years of storage) and a touch of flower. The smokiness has greatly decline in mouth and the liquor is soft and round. The tannins have completely melted and the usual flowery layer from Xia Guan teas is here completed with lovely fruity notes.
The Xia Guan Tea Factor tuo cha family:
From the higher grade leaves to the lower grade
- 特沱 - Te Tuo : A special grade Tuo Cha made from tiny buds and young leaves.
- 甲沱 - Jia Tuo : The first-grade Tuo Cha, the reference. A clever mix of young and large leaves guaranteeing long term storage capabilities.
- 乙级沱茶 - Yi Ji Tuo Cha : The second-grade Tuo Cha. High ratio of large leaves for a strong tea taste.
