My Notes

Tai Ping Kui Jian — Huangzhong cultivar. 5g. 100 ml gaiwan. 85–90°C water.

Dry leaves are tender and even, slightly open, green with a soft yellow tone. The aroma sits low, chestnut and warm bamboo together, with a faint sweetness like rock sugar. A light herbal note rests underneath, dry, clean, like a warm room holding the trace of something just cooked.

1, Rinse brings up a gentle chestnut note, soft, not rising. The liquor is bright, lightly golden. Entry is smooth, with body already present, moving evenly across the tongue. No bitterness, no astringency.

2, The liquor fills out. The texture is thick, close to rice broth, but still moving freely. Chestnut stays in the body, joined by a soft vegetal sweetness, like fresh bamboo. The sweetness is clear, not lifted, held within the liquor.

3, Floral notes begin to show in the liquor, not separate from it. Orchid moves through the body, quiet, not forward. A faint osmanthus-like sweetness appears, light, translucent, sitting within the structure rather than on top. The surface of the tongue stays coated, the line remains clean.

4, The body stays steady. Chestnut softens, the floral note continues to move in and out, never fully opening. The liquor remains smooth and full, without weight. Sweetness continues from the throat, the finish clean and clear.

5, Leaves open long and intact, green, even. The infused leaves hold a soft sweetness. Across the infusions, the tea stays full yet composed, grounded in chestnut and bamboo, with orchid moving through and a clear, steady finish. This taiping kuijian holds a chestnut and bamboo from the base, orchid sits within the liquor, and the sweetness carries through with clarity. The expression is full, smooth, and settled.
