Huang Zhi Xiang is one of the best-known aroma styles of Fenghuang Dancong, recognised for its elegant gardenia fragrance. While mountain, cultivar and roasting all influence the final character of the tea, this floral profile remains its defining signature.
This 2025 Huang Zhi Xiang comes from Wudong Village on Fenghuang Wudong Mountain, at an elevation of over 1,000 metres. The tea is made from tea trees more than sixty years old and finished with three rounds of traditional charcoal roasting. A medium roast preserves the cultivar's floral character while adding depth and sweetness.
The dry leaves are clean and quietly aromatic, opening with notes of fresh gardenia. Warming the leaves reveals a fuller expression, where the floral fragrance becomes brighter and more layered without losing its clarity.
The liquor is smooth, supple and remarkably fluid. The floral aroma moves naturally from the cup into the palate before lingering gently in the nose after each sip. Beneath the flowers lies a restrained sweetness that recalls sugar cane and fresh cream, giving the tea a rounded, silky texture. The finish is long, leaving a lingering impression of white blossoms rather than intensity.
