Jin Guan Yin is known for its rich, perfumed fragrance — yet we gave it a name that moves in the opposite direction: Shui Wu Xiang, Water Has No Fragrance.
A name that speaks in reverse: to find fullness through quietude, and purity through restraint.
This variety was first established on our farm in 2008. Over time, through the steady hands of our tea masters and the patient art of wood charcoal roasting, it evolved along an ancient path. We sought to quiet the misplaced exuberance once attached to this tea — leaving only the essence of true fragrance.
When scent no longer proclaims itself, depth arises from stillness.
Shui Wu Xiang embodies cultivation, restraint, and clarity — for only when all excess fades does true character reveal itself.
With the Shui Wu Xiang Jin Guan Yin, we are happy to offer an alternative to the medium and heavily roasted Jin Guan Yin. This oolong is reminiscent of the green tie guan yin fashion from a few years back but with a bit more fermentation and longer wood charcoal roasting. The result is a tea that starts out quiet on the floral and milky side with hints of honey and pass the mid mouth section, flowers aromas are developing. After a few brews, the delicate white flowers taste dominate and the tea offers a good length with a smooth medium body and a mild sweetness.
