This batch of Jin Yulan (Golden Magnolia) comes from Zi Mao Village — the village of Brother Huang’s wife — located at an elevation of around 800 meters. The trees are about sixty years old. This year’s first spring harvest follows the traditional charcoal roasting method, with two rounds of slow, delicate roasting.
The dry leaves, when held in hand, reveal reddish-golden hues with a firm, weighty texture that feels deeply satisfying. The distinct magnolia fragrance of this rare cultivar is already prominent in its dry form — refined, sweet, and quietly elegant. Grown from old trees that are harvested only once a year in spring, the tea is rich in inner substance and complexity.
During brewing, the aroma remains stable and enduring, unfolding gradually with remarkable persistence. The natural magnolia fragrance lingers gracefully in the liquor — a bright, golden-yellow infusion that shimmers with a soft, inviting glow. The taste is full-bodied and mellow, carrying gentle sweetness and lasting clarity, leaving a persistent sweetness deep in the throat.
The infused leaves are lively and uniform, with green centers edged in red, supple and elastic to the touch. When warmed between the fingers, they release a delicate magnolia scent intertwined with a hint of sugarcane sweetness — soft, pure, and comforting like a spring breeze.
Such purity and completeness of expression in a Jin Yulan is truly rare. This year’s batch is a remarkable encounter, one that may not appear again in the next harvest.
