Building on the excellence of teas from the same celebrated region, the Spring 2025 Tai Ping Lan Hua Jian is a new introduction to Jing Tea Shop’s green tea collection. Grown in the heart of Houkeng — the core producing area of Taiping Houkui — this tea is crafted from a Houkui variety harvested at the tender bud stage, offering a refined and delicate expression of the region’s character.

True to its name, Lan Hua Jian reveals a graceful orchid flower aroma, complemented by a refreshing mouthfeel and lingering sweetness. While sharing lineage and terroir with the renowned Houkui, this tea stands apart with its lightness, elegance, and floral charm — a gentle and captivating addition for those exploring the subtler side of Anhui’s green tea tradition.

Tasting notes updated

The dry leaves carry a gentle sweetness — roasted nut aroma, somewhere between toasted soybeans and warm almonds, with a soft milky hint. There’s also a touch of freshness, like young bamboo leaves or the scent of early grass in spring air.

After warming the gaiwan and placing the leaves inside, a gentle shake brings up a quiet roasted almond note.

The liquor is clear and luminous. On the nose, a soft umami scent rises — like a clean chicken broth, or the gentle aroma of egg yolk after cooling. It feels simple, light, and comforting.

On the palate, it’s bright and refreshing, with a smooth, rich texture that doesn’t weigh down the tongue.
It glides away like geese across a spring sky — silent, but leaving behind a trace.
The taste gently coats the tongue with spring-like flavors: the mellow bitterness of asparagus, the freshness of young pea shoots, the soft starchiness of pan-toasted soybeans. A touch of salinity rounds it out, making the aftertaste even clearer and sweeter.
