Anxi Oolong Ba Xian

Anxi Oolong Ba Xian
Price: $9.90

Origin : Anxi County, Fu Jian Province

Harvesting Area : Xi Ping

Season : Spring 2006

Weight : 100 grams (3.53 ounces)

A new arrival at Jing Tea Shop. This oolong tea race is named Ba Xian, which is a less well known oolong product among the Anxi oolongs.

It is processed along the traditional way of oolong making in Anxi, which came through a right fermentation and baking. The leaves are carefully rolled with an even and uniformed appearance and color. Also, it is baked with wood charcoal fire, which offers this lovely oolong tea a pleasant honey touch.

The liquor is thick and shiny with a very good clarity. The heavy liquor is very rich and complex and yet smooth. Because of the long time and low temperature wood charcola baking, this oolong tea gives a honey like sweetness to the mouth with a grapefruit flower like floral flavor at the finishing. The "Ba Xian Yun" is rather obvious during the aftertaste, which is slightly astringent combined with a delicate creamy hint.

Ba Xian Spring 2006, 28 Aug 2006
by Barry K.

This is a very traditional Anxi oolong. The tea leaves (wet), many of which are broken, have been fully manipulated and fermented to an even dark green. This is not a tea for those who prefer lightly baked floral oolongs with pretty leaves. That said, this tea provides a complex, and full-bodied brew, that even has a hint of the mineral "yan" aroma/flavor found in good Wuyi teas. There are few teas in this price range that will provide as many flavorful infusions as this one.
